A Refreshing Garlic Vinegar SauceEdit

This sauce is officially designed to go with Naam Deep or Naam Jeun (Un-fried or Fried Summer Rolls). However, it also goes well with spring rolls and sometimes just on some sticky rice. This should make plenty enough to split into half and make one spicy and one medium-mild for the kids and the non-Laotians :-P.Flycogen 02:24, February 16, 2011 (UTC)


  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 1/2 Cup Rice Vinegar or Lime Juice
  • 1/2 Cup Sugar
  • 1/3 Cup Fish Sauce
  • 1/4 Tsp Salt
  • 3 Garlic Cloves Minced
  • 1 Teaspoon Dried Chilles
  • 1/2 Cup Chopped Roasted Peanuts
  • 2 Tablespoons Chopped Cilantro
  • Vietnamese Garlic Chili Paste or Fresh Chiles to Taste


  1. Heat the water in a small saucepan and dissolve the sugar in it.
  2. Stir in the other ingredients and let cool
  3. Add more Fresh Chilles or Chili Paste to Taste

A Variation: Thai Salad DressingEdit

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of oil
  • Thinly slice 1 red shallot
  • Brown in the oil and mix with the above ingredients.
