Handling knives can be intimidating and a lot of people never get comfortable using these basic implements. There is a knife for every job and a technique for every knife. Mom patiently taught us over and over how to use knives correctly, and it is a critical skill unless you enjoy prepping your ingredients late into the night.
- Keep your knives sharp.
- Sharpen regularly with a sharpening steel (as in whenever you can't feel the edge catching on you skin as you rub your thumb across the edge- probably every few days)
- Once every few months, break out a sharpening stone or blade sharpener.
