While growing up, I protested greatly the foreign nature of my meal that made me different from all the other kids who were packed sandwiches and given money to buy hamburgers. We got rice and veggies and sausage in these cheap brightly colored plastic Chinese lunchboxes with matching thermoses. The thing made my lunchbox filled to the brim and it was always a challenge to get it closed. If packed into a brown bag, it always tore apart. It was a very Asian thing and it made me uncomfortable, but it was very wholesome and a lot more work then just throwing together a sandwich or doling out five bucks.
